Saturday
Started the day with a trip to Lesley’s dad. The traffic was terrible everywhere. There were roadworks on the motorway and it was closed westbound so everyone was making their way round the closure on local roads. Our journey to him is normally about 40 minutes. It took over two hours today. I sent a warning to Eldest Sister who would be visiting Mum tomorrow.
However, there seemed to be a reasonably good chance that her journey would be worthwhile. I couldn’t definitely say that Mum would be properly awake but she was starting to come round this evening.
Mum wasn’t communicative verbally yet but she was certainly responsive. The best responses I got were when I asked if she was asleep and when I said I was going to stop disturbing her and let her get some proper sleep.
Other than that she was content to just hold my hand in silence as we listened to some music on Alexa and 101 year-old Jean next door randomly shouting “DEAD!!” occasionally.
Author’s Note
My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.
All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
