Nursing Home

Wednesday

Bit of a mixed bag today. Mum remembered that Lesley had been to the dentist (that was last Thursday) and asked how she’d got on. She was quite clear about Eldest Sister and Youngest Sister visiting recently. Also clear about moving to a new place and that it is miles away. Becoming aware of what a state she’s in too.

However, she also told me at great length about the monkey behind the curtains, Uncle Dick being here this morning and about the little girl who is here that they don’t know what to do with…

The mixed bag continued during the 3 hours I was there. I always put BBC Radio3 on when I’m there for a quiet calming atmosphere. When the choral evensong (William Byrd. Beautiful.) finished some old shite came on. I asked what she thought of it and she screwed her face up. I suggest trying the news. The first item we hear is about Trump’s latest indictment. Amazingly, mum had a pretty good handle on what The Orange One had been up to and how much trouble he was in. But then I totally failed to get her to eat any of her supper and she started becoming confused particularly after having had a bit of a kip. And then she snapped back in focus and said that I’d better go and take care of Lesley.

Eldest Sister noted that when she goes, Mum talks a lot about her eldest’s wedding and last time she commented that he is the first grandchild to get married. So Mum is sometimes on the ball. It’s just amazing how quickly she switches.

Author’s Note

My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.

All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
