Monday

Youngest Sister did the visit today. She arrived to find Mum asleep.

She did try to wake her. Mum came to a little but then went straight back to sleep. Youngest Sister spotted a therapy plan above Mum’s bed. It was pretty simple. They had circled the rota stands & hoist for use & the rise & recline chair. As it was dated the 6th she assumed I’d seen it but it hadn’t been there the day before when I was there. As it had taken a few days for her last heart scan results to make it onto her notes we concluded that it was just another example of of those things that take time to filter through.

Having said that, I had been making a point of trying to speak to a doctor every day and no-one had mentioned any therapy of any sort. The main focus had been about getting her medically stable and stability wasn’t mentioned until yesterday.

Youngest Sister noted that they may be trying things prior to the meeting next week so that they had some idea of her mobility.

As usual Mum had eaten well today. She came to for a minute & I asked her if she wanted a drink but she refused. She was sitting in the chair earlier. The nurse has just started the fluids & she is still on the antibiotics.

Youngest Sister remarked that Mum was being given Fortisip drinks. Surely if they want her to have something like that it should be the yogurt ones.

I thought that was interesting too. Absolutely everybody was saying how good Mum’s appetite was and we all knew how hard it was to get her to drink anything. So why give her food supplements in liquid form?

As per The Hospital’s request that patients should be wearing their own clothes rather than hospital gowns to make them feel more comfortable, Youngest Sister had brought in some more of Mum’s own nighties and taken home the dirty one.

Author’s Note

My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.

All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
