Tuesday
Accepting that it wasn’t a very high bar, this was the best I’d seen Mum since moving to the stroke rehab ward.
In the hour and a bit I was there she said more that was understandable than she had since the strokes. I even got her to drink something. She was a bit fidgety trying to get comfortable in the heat but at least she was able to move the sheet around herself. That was new. There was no IV attached but the regulator was still there so she hadn’t finished with it completely.
Eldest Sister agreed that that was an improvement.
There was some discussion in the Family Chat regarding the visiting schedule on Saturday. Both Brother and Eldest Sister were planning to attend Mum.
Scheduling was a problem because Brother’s journey time could be anywhere from two and a half to four and a half hours and he had to visit his wife’s family on the way.
Eldest Sister tended to get the near to the start of visiting – the ward has a garden off it so we can always rotate.
They weren’t so strict on the number of visitors by each bed in this ward so there wouldn’t be the same pressure to rotate as before. One thing I had noticed over the past few days though is that all the visitor chairs seem to have gone walkies. So there’s that. I’ve been perching on mum’s orthopaedic chair which I find really uncomfortable. She kept telling me to sit down today because I had to stand and unravel my back.
Author’s Note
My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.
All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
