Wednesday
The riverbank is waking up after the winter and the floodwater has receded enough for The Dog to cheekily tack on a riverside extension to her walk round the lake. The footpaths weren’t entirely clear of water but as I had already slipped in the mud around the lake and fallen in the water my feet were wet so the extra water in my boots mattered little.
The Dog had taken some coaxing to leave her sun puddle in the conservatory but once we were out she took charge and it wasn’t a day to be fighting her for a route she didn’t want. The sunshine was gorgeous, the trees were full of birdsong and the muddy paths by the river were covered in the hoof-prints of deer. The Dog and I watched the squirrels chasing each other up and down the trees and we saw a heron catch a fish.
A restful and restorative day for me and The Dog and a welcome uneventful visit for Lesley to her dad.
Nice.
