Nursing Home

Friday

It took me a couple of attempts to get any sort of response out of Mum this evening. Her first reaction?

“Can I have a drink?”

And that was pretty much all she said. She drank the remaining half of her squash and within a few minutes she was snoring.

I hung around holding her hand and read to her briefly just to make sure she was properly asleep. She did surface again a couple of times before becoming completely unresponsive.

I still wasn’t certain that this was the start of a proper Sleepy phase. It probably was if the classic fidgeting was anything to go by.

There were some other involuntary movements that I hadn’t seen before too though. Both arms levitated high above her head before she let them fall limply onto the bed. It was disturbing for me and it didn’t wake her up.

It was just odd. And new.

Author’s Note

My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.

All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
