Spring evening

Thursday

A day at home for me and The Dog today. Lesley went to her dad. On the agenda today was laying out his meds, collecting his new glasses and lunch out at his favourite garden centre.

It got off to an awkward start. The Meds Debacle had one final twist.

“Where are your tablets Dad?”

“What tablets?”

“The ones you said had been delivered the other day.”

“I didn’t say that!”

“They asked you at the day centre. You told them they’d been delivered.”

Sullen silence.

“Never mind Dad. I’ll go to the pharmacy myself.”

Did he mis-hear or mis-understand the question? We’ll never know. Both of the carers that I know tell me that he is quite deaf but he can hear both of them without his hearing aids. His hearing isn’t as bad as he makes out. His audiologists have said the same. They think his deafness is selective.

Author’s Note

My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.

All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
