Sunday
A welcome day off visiting Mum. Eldest Sister did the honours with her two youngest.
She described the visit as ‘unspectacular’. Mum was asleep and barely stirred while they were there. She didn’t think Mum registered their presence at all.
The next time they see her she’ll be in the new home. There was some discussion around whether the move might actually do her good and liven her up a bit.
The Manager there said she expected a bit of a dip to start with. It happens when most residents arrive and they’re ready for it.
My feeling is that Mum already has a couple of days every week when she’s too sleepy to eat or drink. I wonder how much of an extra dip she can take. It already amazes me how they manage to keep her weight so stable at The Home. Even when she’s awake she barely eats anything. She’s surviving on porridge at breakfast, a fortified smoothie in the afternoon and Weetabix for supper. True, she doesn’t expend any energy moving about or keeping warm but even so, she’s just existing on stodge.
Author’s Note
My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.
All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
