Nursing Home

Sunday

Eldest Sister did the visit today with all three kids and youngest son’s girlfriend. It was Girlfriend’s first visit and Mum did, apparently, remember having met her before.

Mum had been awake and chatty while they were there. It did all seem surreal at times. Mum complained about her feet aching but then became unsure whether they were actually her feet and wondered whether they belonged to the shop downstairs.

Mum had remembered speaking to my Brother and his wife the day before and said that she’d enjoyed it.

Not only did Mum remember Eldest Sister’s youngest son’s girlfriend, she also remembered that the eldest son was married. She asked when he was getting his wife back. This was before we knew that his wife’s visa application had been successful so I presume he said he didn’t know.

Eldest Sister’s kids are fairly loud. Too loud for Mum at any rate. At one point they had been laughing so loudly that Mum put her fingers in her ears.

In a flashback to the days when Mum had first arrived at The Home and enjoyed a small home-made fresh fruit salad every day, they had brought some mango with them. Mum ate all that and they were also able to get Mum to drink some squash. It was at this point that Mum said she knew she wasn’t drinking enough.

On their way out they had an “encounter” with someone they realised from my description was Lily. They also realised that Lily was angling to make an escape attempt which they were able to successfully thwart.

Author’s Note

My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.

All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
