Nursing Home

Tuesday

Sue did the afternoon visit today and WhatsApped me as she was leaving.

“Mum’s asked me to bring the dog next time, and take the Bible because you read other books to her. She talked about the grandchildren coming to see her, and the up-coming wedding, Only a couple of re routes, she asked me when I got back from America. She said that children live in the building she can see out of her window. It was mostly lucid, real conversation. She likes the Bible being read to her and I’m to bring it again.”

Mum talks about children being round the place a lot. The building across the street is a primary school and the infants is nearby too. You can hear both quite clearly at lunchtimes.

Mum was chattier this evening than she’s been for a while and seemed to be in a good mood. We could hear the night shift getting on with the other residents and, unusually, she didn’t get at all irritated that they weren’t seeing to her first. I got chapter and verse about Sue’s visit, which she really enjoyed, while we waited. In the end she actually said that I might as well make a move and go home as they were taking so long. That’s a first.

Author’s Note

My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.

All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
