Tuesday
Mum hadn’t exactly set a high bar but she did seem better than she did on Sunday. She said she does too. Mind you, that was the only thing she said that I could make out.
I updated her on the memorial service for her sister-in-law that we went to yesterday. I got a smile out of her when I told her that her nephew looked like an old man and a look of surprise when told what her sister-in-law’s actual first name was. She must’ve heard it read out in church when her brother got married though. We were all amazed though.
Mum nattered a bit after that but nothing I could understand.
Mum was more mobile than I’d seen her since admission. I went to speak to the sister and came back to find mum halfway out of bed. I think agitated is too strong a word. Restless might be better. Bed rails on both sides were fitted pretty promptly after that.
The doctor said the scan did actually happen but was not added to the notes. Images were rechecked and no thrombus was found so she’ wasn’t at risk there.
Youngest Sister noted that that was a lot better than she was yesterday. Mum just lay there looking at the ceiling most of the time.
The doctor was deliberately vague about timescales when I spoke to her. All she said was that they’d keep mum in until they thought she’d be ‘safe’ but had to balance that against the risk of her catching something else while in hospital. She did use the word ‘months’ though…
Author’s Note
My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.
All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
