Thursday
As I wasn’t on the visitor schedule I called the ward first thing to find out what Mum’s CT scan had revealed. ‘No further bleeds’ was good news.
Mum had had some lucid periods during the morning but had mostly been in the unresponsive delirium state she’d been in yesterday. The plan was that she’d be transferred to the stroke rehab ward as soon as a bed was available for specialist treatment.
Eldest Sister did the visit later in the day. She said they were going to do a scan of Mum’s heart tomorrow to see if they could back up their theory that there are clots forming there. After they’d got the results they may put Mum back on heparin or stick with aspirin.
She had been eating but they said that when she was drinking water it was making her cough, so she now has a thickener added, which is helping.
Mum had been awake and was answering questions. Eldest Sister mentioned everyone who had visited her so far and she said that she remembered them. It was a bit of a one-sided conversation though.
Author’s Note
My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.
All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
