Nursing Home

Thursday

Mum had 2 visits today. We’ve been walking next door’s dog for the past couple of days – Margo is the only dog that Our Hound will tolerate coming near her – and Lesley took Margo in to see Mum in the afternoon. Mum loved it and said it had been ages since she’d seen a dog. Margo is tiny – she’s a Border Terrier – but she was energetic enough to make Mum nervous when Margo went to sniff or lick her. There’s no way we can take our hooligan in there.

There was talk of Mum going back to her old room. Lesley’s sure that’s what she wants and needs too.

Although it was only a quick visit, it still made Mum smile when we talked about it on my way home from the gym. Mum was dozing when I arrived.

Apart from brightening up when we talked about Lesley’s visit, I think she’s feeling a bit low. The telly wasn’t on, the lights were off and there was nothing on Alexa. She was thirsty too. I can understand that she could’ve declined or not responded when asked if she wanted the telly or the radio on but the carers won’t let her get away with not drinking. Even if she’s asleep they’ll wake her for a drink.

She was content for me to read to her until she dozed off again but she didn’t want me to put the telly on. We may have passed the current peak.

Author’s Note

My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.

All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
