Thursday
Arrived at The Hospital late today. There had been what insiders call a ‘One Under’ situation somewhere in east London that had shut the Central line and the buses were heaving.
Got there to find Mum in her chair. Sleeping, obviously.
She became more responsive and active as the afternoon wore on. Still not bothering to try and talk yet but would nod or shake her head to closed questions. She nodded when I asked if I should tell everyone that she was feeling better. The only other thing to add was that she was on a slow saline drip. Judging by the full water jug she was not drinking. She certainly refused any water from me.
Eldest Sister got a call today from one of the physio’s. She said they would like to have a meeting with the family to discuss Mum’s progress and the next steps. They proposed a date towards the end of the month. Both sisters were hoping to make the date but Brother said he’d have to step back. Given that The Hospital preferred to limit attendance to three family members, that we three had had most involvement so far and that we three were likely to be impacted the most by the next steps, that seemed a fair position to take.
The hospital asked for photos of Mum’s house so they could see the environment in which mum lived. Youngest Sister stepped up and emailed them photos of her bedroom, bathroom, stairs, living room, kitchen and dining room.
Hopefully, that’s enough for them.
Author’s Note
My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.
All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
