NHS Hospital

Saturday

Eldest Sister did the visit today with her kids. The ward is very strict on there only being two visitors per patient so they work in rotation. They witness the arrival of physios who attempt to get Mum up and walking. She makes it as far as the end of the bed before her legs give way. They put it down to tiredness but she’s been sedentary for a while and in bed for a week. All her vital signs seem OK though. Eldest Sister says Mum seems brighter and is talking about the forthcoming wedding. Looking that far forward is seen as positive. But she later noted that Mum didn’t look as good as she did on Tuesday. Not as alert or chatty and much more tired. She assumed that this was down to the invasive procedure that she had on Friday.

I’ve done a diary check for the coming week and Father-in-Law has a number of appointments meaning there’ll be days when I can’t visit Mum if she’s still in hospital. We manage to get volunteers to cover a visit every day. We even allow ourselves some discussion about what we need to put in place for when Mum comes home.

Author’s Note

My Mum is in a nursing home in a small village in the Thames Valley. The photo is not of the home. I used an AI image generator to give the reader some idea of the home she’s in.

All, some or maybe even none (you’ll never know!) of the names have been changed to protect privacy and hide real identities. If you think you recognise someone then let me know and I’ll edit the post or remove it entirely
