This Ash Bowl is one of my earliest turned wood projects. The aim had been to produce something with a simplicity and purity of form and with a pleasing finish. I was delighted with the result.

significance

Having already become a relatively experienced stone carver I sought something equally challenging, something equally intimate with natural and elemental products but which could produce satisfying results in minutes or hours rather than days or weeks.

Having done a prodigious amount of ‘research’ which mostly consisted of watching hours of YouTube videos, I took the plunge and took a class. This bowl is the product of my first solo project. As is customary in YouTube videos I shall close by saying that I was really pleased with the way it turned out.
